Honeywell CT4x Series Guide (CT40, CT45/XP, CT47): Specs, Part Numbers & Rugged Mobile Solutions

The Honeywell CT4x series, encompassing the CT40, CT40XP, CT45, CT45XP, and the latest CT47 models, represents Honeywell’s line of sleek, lightweight, yet durable Android™ mobile computers. Designed with a familiar smartphone form factor, these devices provide a significant step up in ruggedness and enterprise features compared to consumer devices, making them ideal for front-line workers in retail, transportation & logistics (T&L), field service, and healthcare (with specific HC models). Key later models (CT40XP, CT45/XP, CT47) are built on the Mobility Edge™ platform, ensuring longevity and easier management.

Key Features of the Honeywell CT4x Series

This series offers a blend of modern usability and enterprise-grade resilience:

  • Operating System & Platform: Android OS. While the original CT40 (now End of Life for sales) started on earlier Android versions, the CT40XP, CT45/XP, and CT47 are built on the Honeywell Mobility Edge™ platform. This guarantees extended OS support (e.g., CT45/XP up to Android 15 feasible, CT47 up to Android 16 planned), simplifying updates and maximizing device lifespan.
  • Moderate Ruggedness: Designed to withstand typical workplace incidents, offering drop protection (typically 4-6 ft / 1.2-1.8m to concrete with protective boot) and IP65, IP67, or IP68 ratings against dust and water. Disinfectant-Ready housings are available on CT45 HC models for healthcare environments.
  • Smartphone Ergonomics: Features a slim, full-touch design without physical keypads, making it intuitive for workers accustomed to smartphones.
  • Integrated Scanning: Includes built-in 1D/2D imagers for efficient data capture.
    • CT40/CT45/XP: Typically feature standard range scan engines (e.g., Honeywell S0703, N6703).
    • CT47: Offers standard range options plus the advanced FlexRange™ XLR engine capable of scanning from near contact up to ~80 ft (24m).
  • Display: Bright, responsive touchscreens with durable Corning® Gorilla® Glass.
    • CT40/CT45: 5-inch HD (1280×720).
    • CT45XP: 5-inch FHD (1920×1080).
    • CT47: 5.5-inch FHD+ (2160×1080).
  • Connectivity: Strong wireless capabilities are standard.
    • Wi-Fi: 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) on CT40/45; Wi-Fi 6 on CT45XP; Wi-Fi 6E on CT47.
    • Bluetooth: Versions 5.0 / 5.1 / 5.2 BLE across the series.
    • WWAN/Cellular: 4G LTE is a standard or common option on most models (CT40, CT45/XP). The CT47 offers 5G and LTE connectivity.
    • NFC: Integrated for tap-to-pair and other applications.
  • Battery: Features removable, rechargeable Li-Ion batteries (typically ~4000mAh for CT40/45, ~4775mAh for CT47 standard capacity) supporting full-shift use, often with warm/hot swap capabilities.
  • Processor: Utilizes Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ octa-core processors, with increasing performance in newer models (e.g., QCM4290 in CT45/XP, faster QCM6490 in CT47).

Identifying Your Honeywell CT4x Model and Part Number

The specific configuration of your device is detailed in its Manufacturer Part Number (MPN), found on the device label (often under the battery).

  • Models & Generations:
    • CT40: Older Generation (End of Sale Nov 2024, support ends Dec 2029). Not Mobility Edge.
    • CT40XP: Added Mobility Edge to CT40 platform.
    • CT45 / CT45XP: Current Mature Generation (Mobility Edge). XP denotes upgrades like Wi-Fi 6, FHD display, more RAM. CT45-HC variants exist.
    • CT47: Latest Generation (Mobility Edge). Features 5G option, Wi-Fi 6E, FlexRange XLR option, faster processor.
  • Part Number Structure: Often starts CT4[0/5/7]... followed by codes for WLAN/WWAN (L0N=WLAN?, L1N=WWAN?), scanner engine, memory (e.g., 2=4GB?, 3=6GB?, 5=8GB?), OS/GMS, battery, region (E=EMEA, G=Global?), special features (HC, XP).
  • Example Part Numbers (Illustrative Only – Always Check Your Device):
    • CT40-L0N-ASC210E (CT40 Example, likely WLAN, SR Scanner, 2GB/32GB?, EMEA?)
    • CT45-L0N-27D100G (CT45 WLAN?, 4GB/64GB?, SR S0703?, GMS, Global?)
    • CT45P-L1N-37D1E0G (CT45XP WWAN, 6GB/64GB, SR S0703, Android 11, GMS, EMEA?)
    • CT47-X0N-3ED100G (CT47 WLAN, 6GB/128GB, FlexRange XLR, Std Batt, GMS, Global?)
    • CT47-X1N-58D1E0G (CT47 WWAN/5G, 8GB/128GB, FlexRange Red Dot?, Std Batt, GMS, EMEA?)

Use your MPN when looking for compatible batteries, chargers, boots, holsters, or specific support information.

Is It Time to Repair, Replace, or Upgrade Your CT4x?

If you’re using the original Honeywell CT40, planning an upgrade is advisable as it reached its End of Sale date in late 2024 and lacks the Mobility Edge platform’s longevity benefits. Upgrading to the CT45/XP or CT47 provides a direct path forward with significant improvements.

For CT45/XP users, these remain capable devices with good OS support via Mobility Edge. An upgrade to the CT47 might be justified if you require the absolute latest performance, 5G cellular speeds, Wi-Fi 6E networking, the longest possible Android OS support (to version 16+), or the FlexRange XLR scanning capability.

The CT4x series is an excellent choice for replacing consumer smartphones in enterprise roles, offering much needed durability and scanning integration. If your environment demands physical keypads or higher ruggedness, consider the Honeywell CK65 or Zebra alternatives.
